Microsoft Business Productivity Infrastructure – Take your business productivity
to the next level.
In the February newsletter (link below), Comcity talked about Office 2010
and the coming impact on productivity it will have on your business. Over the
coming issues Comcity will provide you with technology details and reviews of
the solutions and explain through scenario examples how they can benefit your
business.
Turn your IT Infrastructure Expenditure from a black hole expense into an IT
Investment with true ROI and VOI.
Microsoft is now releasing it’s full weight behind a new suite of server and
desktop products, integrated like never before, to make you business more
productive than ever.
The platform will be called the Microsoft Business Productivity Infrastructure
(MBPI) and consists of four core product lines:
- Microsoft Office 2010
- Microsoft SharePoint 2010
- Microsoft Exchange 2010
- Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2
In this newsletter Comcity will outline some of the top new features for
Microsoft Office 2010.
Give your mobile workforce the tools they need to succeed. In
today’s world, practically everyone is mobile. With Microsoft Office Mobile, the
work wheels keep moving, with the ability to share, edit, and comment on
documents with Smartphone’s, using a familiar Microsoft Office experience. And
use Web Apps through the browser of a Smartphone to make edits and view
documents without losing any formatting or content.
Turn raw data into smart decisions. PowerPivot for Excel, a data analysis add-in,
allows you to quickly calculate data sets of hundreds of millions of rows, and
Sparklines, a brilliant visual graphic, show trends in a single cell right next
to the corresponding data. Excel, the definitive data tool, is updated to help
you make even better decisions—without the need for costly Business Intelligence
solutions.
Master your inbox with advanced e-mail management. Conversation
View, Clean Up, and Ignore in Outlook 2010 remove duplicate information and act
like a “mute button” for your inbox. In addition, MailTips can be configured by
IT to provide notices before messages are sent to avoid information leaks
outside the company domain or embarrassing mistakes to large distribution lists.
Help maintain compliance in a rising tide of information. The
Accessibility Checker inspects documents for content that may be difficult for
people with disabilities to consume and provides an explanation of issues with
step-by-step help for correcting them. Retention Policy is an archiving tool
that is more flexible to users’ workflow, with capabilities such as item-level
retention, user-created file application, and exception handling. Office 2010
offers a variety of tools and features that improve an organization’s ability to
maintain compliance—from accessible document creation to e-mail retention and
improved Enterprise Content Management (ECM).
Instantly share slideshows across town or around the world.
Spend less money on third-party conferencing tools with Broadcast Slide Show.
You can present a slideshow directly from PowerPoint 2010 to anyone with access
to a Web browser by hosting the content locally with SharePoint 2010, or through
a free service provided over the Internet.

Technical Tips
Snap is a quick (and fun) new way to resize open windows, simply by dragging them to the edges of your screen.
Depending on where you drag a window, you can make it expand vertically, take up the entire screen, or appear
side-by-side with another window. Snap makes reading, organizing, and comparing windows.
