Microsoft have extended the period for customers to obtain Software Assurance to Windows desktop operating systems that were acquired with new PCs as OEM licensing.

The time period has been extended from 90 to 180 days and until June 30th there is a 15% discount on Software Assurance when purchased with new PCs. With the release of Windows 7 coming Software Assurance is a Microsoft license add-on that provides a number of additional benefits, the main being New version upgrade rights. Based on this Software Assurance gives you the ability to upgrade to Windows 7 upon release. This significantly reduces costs of a future upgrade to Windows 7 for all businesses.
